My long awaited album, Waking Up the Ruins, is now available on itunes and cdbaby ! It’s $9.99 on itunes and $7.99 on cdbaby, of course one can also choose to download individual tracks. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 3 years since we recorded the album. I am currently in the studio working on my next one, which shouldn’t take as long as this one, but all in due time. As always thanks for listening!

Hello there!

A lot is going on as of late. The guys and I have been gigging quite frequently. We just had 3 shows in March! We’ve also been writing a lot of new tunes that we are all pretty stoked about. And if you missed out on the shows, don’t worry I’ve spent hours editing the videos and uploading them onto youtube. Here’s a link to one of our newest songs, Games, from our recent performance at Best Buy in Chelsea, NYC. Also, I’ve been working on getting my first album, Waking Up the Ruins, on itunes and CDBaby for download. I’ll blast the internet when it’s available. Until then if you are interested in seeing the lyrics and album credits for the album you can simply click on the Album tab of this website and find that each song title has a link to the lyrics.

Cheerio!

If I had a way to blare it from the rooftops I would, if I had a supersonic magic megaphone that would reach the nations I’d use it for this: People are definitely prone to assume I am so enthusiastic merely because the subject matter is my sister, but trust me if she weren’t so freeking amazing as a singer/songwriter I wouldn’t waste my time. Faith Gilmore’s (www.faithgilmore.com) newest album, Bold as Lions, couldn’t be more relevant and more enjoyable. The production quality is top notch and Faith’s voice has been stretched to a whole new level. I am having trouble picking a favorite track, it’s probably a tie between five different songs. Faith has somewhat created a new genre using a language in song that sings to Jerusalem in pop form. This album is a message to the nations on both a personal and global level. I find it to be nothing less than important, catchy, intimate, beautiful, deep and super professional in quality. I am convicted to say that this album encourages our spirits to be lifted and aids us in reaching truth. Do yourself a favor and check it out on itunes now. Faith Gilmore: Bold as Lions

A wonderful friend and past writing partner of mine, Jarred McCaulley, recently released his new album "Giants Among Men" on itunes. For those folk artist fans Jarred is definitely right up your alley. I was quite delighted upon listening to his album in full. In a word the album is magical. The song "Clean Your Guns Boys" is obviously the clincher of the record, but in my non-expertise opinion "Letters" really tugs on the heartstrings. It's quite beautiful. That was the one I re-played immediately upon the album's end. The majority of this work is pretty nostalgic as Jarred has managed to place himself in the mindset of the imaginary boy he once was. Like Jarred, "Giants Among Men" is quite witty, smart and romantic. I haven't really heard Jarred perform since college, so it's nice to hear how he has grown and explored new ways to use his voice. In hearing the vocal versatility it allows the listener to follow more closely to the heart of the song because of the added character in each song. Check out Jarred McCaulley on itunes!
Congrats Jarred!

According to my new close friend Wikipedia, we’ll call him Wiki, the correct definition for the genre Soundtrack is that it “refers to three related concepts: recorded music accompanying and synchronized to the images of a motion picture, television program or video game; a commercially released soundtrack album of music as featured in the soundtrack of a film or TV show; and the physical area of a film that contains the synchronized recorded sound.” Since I was young I have had a special love for movie soundtracks. Not only do I love movies and music but to have them together is a whole other experience. I love how just by the addition of something like strings or even a full on song it can allow someone to fully embrace the mood of a scene or an underlying message. Imagine how boring it would be to read the credits of a movie without music behind it. So many classic movies are known for their musical themes, for example: Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Jaws, E.T., Gone with the Wind, the list goes on. It’s incredible how when I listen to a soundtrack it can take me right back to a scene in a movie and make me laugh or cry all over again. One song in particular that moves me is “Let Go” by: Frou Frou (Imogen Heap, before she went solo) which was in Garden State. I always see Sam (Natalie Portman) crying on the steps not wanting to “let go” of Andrew (Zach Braff), then he leaves and she’s crying in the phone booth, he’s on the plane and the next thing we know he’s decided to come back to her! What a perfect ending. Another memorable one is “Colorblind” by Counting Crows in the movie Cruel Intentions when Annette (Reese Witherspoon) is going up on the escalator to find Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) is right at the top waiting for her to tell her he’s in love with her. Some of my favorite instrumental (or mostly instrumental) soundtracks are Braveheart, Edward Scissorhands, The Titanic, The Horse Whisperer, The Man in the Iron Mask, Jurassic Park, Bed of Roses, Meet Joe Black. The Truman Show, and the Prince of Egypt (which also includes the well known song “When You Believe” performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey). The soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet is pretty good too, with songs like “When Doves Cry”, “LoveFool”, and “Kissing You” (which plays during the scene that Romeo first discovers Juliet). Some fun ones are My Girl, Now and Then, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Juno, Grease, Moulin Rouge, and Mission Impossible. Just to name a few out of the ordinary ones I am particularly intrigued by: The Saint, Virgin Suicides, Vanilla Sky, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I also loved the original music written for the movie Once, which won a 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song (for the song “Falling Slowly”) and received a Grammy nomination for the soundtrack as a whole. Needless to say I really really really really like movie soundtracks. Enough rambling for one night, happy listening!

Went to The Doves concert tonight at Terminal 5. The venue was pretty cool. My boyfriend and I stood on cushioned seats in order to see, it was pretty much standing room only. We went to the top (third floor), it was less crowded up there. The 2nd and 3rd levels had V.I.P. sections blocked off right by the balcony edges. I enjoyed it, but the sound wasn’t quite as great as it could have been. Perhaps I’m spoiled by sound of the album. I was surprised by how nice the venue was, especially for being so far on the West Side of Manhattan. They showed videos throughout the whole show on a big screen behind them, it was more entertaining than some shows that just shine bright lights or show swirlies on a screen the whole time. They came out for an encore after perhaps 3 minutes of clapping. I’d guess the audience was about 2,000 people maybe, give or take a thousand, kidding…probably 2,000, but I was never the best at guesstimating. The songs were pretty well balanced between their old and new albums, which I liked.

I scored a free ticket to a show the last week of May, one night after work. It was for The Roots, it was pretty dope. It wasn’t what I expected though, they actually had quite a few guest artists come on stage every once in a while to perform. I really liked the opening band, Elevator Fight. I had heard one of their songs before. The lead singer, Zoe Kravitz, Lenny Kravitz’s daughter had a really great stage presence. It was a fun unexpected thing to do.

I should really start making it a goal to see at least one live performance a month.

Hello there,
Several people have asked that I post the lyrics to the song Benjamin, from the album “Waking Up the Ruins”. For those that care here they are and sorry for the delay.
Have a beautiful day!

Benjamin, you went away
Benjamin, I never thought you’d stay
Cause you played your guitar like you didn’t love me
You held my hand like it wasn’t there
When you looked at me you were starin’ above me
I always knew it wasn’t there
Benjamin, you were never mine
Benjamin, it wasn’t wasted time
It’s water now under the bridge
Elementary, it all makes sense
How could I resent you, you were young
High school love was just for fun
With my heart now I easily see
Ben your love how it brings me ease

But you who are, yeah you know your name
Caught me off guard, said you felt the same
I took your word and now I’m scarred
A chance I took with love in your arms
Don’t always know what’s goin’ on
I can’t pretend to be so strong
I’m older now and what have I to show
A broken heart and where can I go
May never understand how it works
Perhaps one day it won’t hurt

You my after-youth heartache
I loved you with everything at stake
Benjamin, at least you told me straight
Benji Boy, you didn’t play with fate

Benjamin, I liked your name
Benjamin, you were a pretty face
But I found love after you
I found love after you
I knew deep down you weren’t for me
Benjamin, we knew it couldn’t be

Benjamin, ‘least losing you made sense
